e-orbit is developing hybrid propulsion systems from few tens of Newton thrust up to more than 1 kN
But what is an hybrid rocket engine?
Hybrid rocket engines are a particular kind of space propulsion systems with the oxidizer and the fuel in two different states of matter.
e-orbit is using Gaseous or liquid oxidizer (O2 or N2O) and solid fuel (Paraffin eco fuels).
Hybrid rocket motors for in-space propulsion
High performances (Isp over 300 s in vacuum and thrusts up to 1kN)
Eco
High flexibility (throttleable system)
Hybrid Space Propulsion System Concept
High Specific Impulse
An high specific Impulse means a lower fuel (and oxidizer) consumption for a given thrust.
This means:
less mass
less volume
Specific Impulse comparison between different space propulsion technologies
e-orbit high performances hybrid rockets provide Specific Impulses higher than most of the other space propulsion technologies and comparable to storable liquid propulsion systems.
ECO Friendly
Transition toward an Ecologically friendly space exploration era
e-orbit utilizes non toxic oxidizers and fuels which do not require special handling precautions
TNT equivalence value equal to 0
Hybrid engines are completely safe because the separate storage of fuel and oxidizer avoid any risk of explosion
TNT equivalence value
Lighter and more reliable propulsion systems
Hybrid motors are less complex than liquid engines making them more reliable and lighter
Less moving parts
Less valves
Less tanks
Launcher solutions
Under development: larger hybrid rocket motors for launchers
